What is Bed Wetting or Nocturnal Enuresis ?
Night-time bed wetting is referred to as nocturnal enuresis, and it is an involuntary urination when a child is asleep. It often stops on its own, and it is important not to create to much fuss around it. Once the child is over conscious about it, it can cause further emotional problems. It may be caused by a number of physical or neurological factors, such as a weak bladder or sleeping extremely deeply and missing the urination urgency message. If the child is under stress, bed wetting will be worse.
Psychological problems are almost always associated, but only rarely the cause.
The emotional impact of Bed Wetting on a child and family can be considerable.
Studies have reported feelings of shame, embarrassment and anxiety; loss of self-esteem; general quality of life, and school performance. All a significant negative impact on self-esteem.
Bed wetting episodes even as infrequent as once per month are still considered a bed wetting problem and will cause similar emotional hardship.
Treatment should be holistic and consider diet, allergies, stress, emotional problems, bladder weakness and more.
