“We can no longer afford to confuse peaceability with passivity.
Authentic peace is no more passive than war. Like war, it calls for discipline and intelligence and strength of character, though it calls also for higher principles and aims.
If we are serious about peace, then we must work for it ardently, seriously, continuously, carefully and bravely.”
Wendell Berry; Poet, Philosopher, Farmer
Welcome
5-day Courageous Conversation between March 26 and 30
called “Transforming Energy:
Inverting power, transitioning to renewables, preparing for climate change” which has an outstanding lineup of Catalyst Presenter and Contributors including ::
Ian Lowe (ACF, Griffith Uni ),
Graeme Pearman (previously CSIRO, Monash Uni ),
Keith Lovegrove ( ANU's Solar Thermal Group),
Kelly Thambimuthu (Centre for Low Emissions Technology),
Peta Ashworth (CSIRO),
Diane Watson (Yugambeh Elder),
Philip Bangerter (Hatch Engineering) and
Kelvin Genn (Compass Group).
This program aims to:
- bring together some of Australia's leaders and emerging leaders from science, business and industry, policy, government, community, activism, education, health, agriculture, energy and engineering;
- support these leaders to recognise and explore the gravity of known and unknown climate change impacts and ecological wildcards for Australia and the Asia Pacific region;
- support the formation of multidisciplinary taskforces to plan: how to address climate change impacts, how to transform Australia 's greenhouse gas impacts and energy use, and how to transition to more deeply sustainable lifestyles and economies locally and nationally.
The second program is a 1-day Think Tank on March 28 called
“Planning for Climate Change and Accelerating Sustainable Energy
in SEQ and Northern NSW ”
which is specifically for high level leaders in regional industry and government and accesses the presenters from the 5-day program as well as high level energy and water leaders in SEQ.
An invitation to you
The Ethos Foundation invites you to participate in this
important conversation. This is not a conference. It is
focused on holistic, slow, deep learning, dialogue and
listening. It is an opportunity for diverse and thoughtful
people to come together to:
Engage with and be challenged by specialist catalyst
presenters who are leaders or emerging leaders in
science, environment, social change, community
building, activism and the arts;
Immerse deeply in dialogue with a wide range of players
from government, industry, community, education,
science, activism, policy and the arts;
Breathe into the extraordinary environment of Binna
Burra on the edge of Lamington National Park – national
biodiversity hotspot and Wangerriburra Country.

The Ethos Foundation
The Ethos Foundation is a not for profit holistic education and land restoration organisation. Our mission is to cultivate effective new
thinking and action for positive, ecologically sustainable futures. Our work facilitates and promotes education for sustainability: personal,
professional, organisational and social.
We embrace the concept of holistic and ‘slow’ learning that engages all aspects of a person – the head, heart, hands and soul. Through
incorporating creativity, cultural learning, ecoliteracy, restorative and contemplative practices we aim to reconnect people with the
Earth, nourish the soul, connect and network, sharpen thinking, increase knowledge, deepen understanding and inspire action.
We acknowledge the efforts of the Gondwana Centre in pioneering Courageous Conversations during 2004-05 and we continue to
grow Gondwana’s broad education mission in our work.
