Little Koala Bamboo Nappies
Bamboo belongs to the woody perennial evergreen plants and is the fastest growing woody plant in the world; growing up to 3-4 feet a day. It needs no replanting and grows without fertilizers or pesticides. It also releases 35% more oxygen than equivalent stands of trees.
Bamboo improves soil quality and is the earth’s most sustainable plant. It is nutrient rich, and that’s good news for the soil.
In Asia, it is of high economic and cultural significance. Grown in gardens and used for building material, food, paper, furniture, hats, martial art weapons and finally but not least bamboo fabric, where the bamboo yarn can be for nappies.
Bamboo fabric is extremely soft, it feels like cashmere but unlike cashmere is machine –washable. It is breathable, keeping air circulating around a babies bottom and is highly absorbent, absorbing 60% more water than cotton in various tests and as it draws moisture aware from the skin, it cools baby bottom reducing redness and soreness.
Not only does bamboo absorb 60% more moisture than cotton but also it dries 20% faster than cotton for the same weight, this allows for slimmer looks in nappies without any loss in absorbency.
The bamboo nappy with its natural anti-bacterial properties and high moisture absorbency will reduce if not prevent nappy rash due to the natural wicking of bamboo nappies. Parents rejoice, as this will allow you to leave a bamboo nappy on that little bit longer without fear of nappy rash, a godsend particularly at night. Even after 50 washes, bamboo fabric has a 70% elimination rate when incubated with bacteria – this natural anti-bacterial function along with the excellent permeability and evaporation of moisture makes bamboo nappy more odour-free as well.
If your baby is allergic to certain fabrics and has sensitive skin, bamboo nappies may be a solution as its natural fibers are hypoallergenic and it is very soft and will not irritate or chaff your babies’ skin.
