Positive Terminology

Positive Terminology for the Corporate and Private Sector ...

Leadership: being the best, not necessarily the biggest. Leaders are willing to speak out on the issues of
the day. They are not afraid to take a public stand.

Initiative/Intuition/Creativity: means taking a step forward, being the first to come up with new innovative ideas.

Efficiency: means doing more with less.

Optimism: is having a positive attitude. Of looking for what's possible and how to make it happen.

Commitment: is what transforms a promise into reality. It is the words that speak, boldly of one's intentions. And the
actions that speak louder than words.

Perspective: is the ability to see the forest and the trees. It is a view from the high ground of objectivity.

Vision: is having an acute sense of the possible. It is seeing what others don't see, in ways that others cannot.
"When those with similar vision come together, something extraordinary occurs.

Quality: is a commitment to excellence. It is attention to details and accuracy. It is being customer service oriented.

Accountability: is taking responsibility before the fact. It is taking a stand, and standing by it. When those who are
accountable are right, they take the credit. When they are wrong, they take the heat.

Responsibility: is a contract one makes with oneself. Included in this contract are the standards we wish to strive
for, the integrity we wish to fight for and the reputation we wish to be known for.

Persistence: is commitment to the long-term view. It is being willing to do whatever it takes.

Flexibility: is making changes where necessary. It is being willing to make mistakes and to learn from them.

Growth: is a continuing process of being open to learning. It is being vulnerable and aware.

Consistency: is unimpressed with a single success. It is more than a promise; it is performance over time. It is
being completion and goal oriented.

Concentration: is clarity. It allows one to turn reaction into action, disadvantage into opportunity, opportunity into
achievement. Concentration is the force that transforms skill into success.

Teamwork: is putting the focus on the good of the whole. It is giving unconditional support and cooperation.

Listening: is paying attention. It is patience, the asking of questions and the hearing of replies. It is the sound of
communication.

Openness and Honesty: are central to a group's success. The way we can help the group is by being aware of our own hidden agendas. It is important that all participate in the group openly as a whole person—being and showing who we are. Direct communications are essential.

Integrity: is more than honesty; it is unyielding adherence to the highest standards of personal and professional
conduct. It is a fundamental part of our responsibility to ourselves and our customers.
