Article by Jenny Simon

Days are getting shorter and colder and with them they bring sneezes and sniffles. Essential oil of eucalyptus is a strong natural
antiseptic that may be effective against a wide range of bacterial and viral infections, which makes it a good addition to our homes during
winter months. It helps to fight and prevent colds, flu, throat infections, sinusitis and headaches caused by congestion.

Eucalyptus is one of the most valuable oils for treating the respiratory system. Smell of eucalyptus encourages deeper breathing.
Inhalation is particularly effective for sinus and respiratory congestion or infection.

  • Add 6 drops to a bowl of hot water (not boiling); cover the head partly with a towel and lean over the bowl to inhale the vapours.

Keep eyes closed and have tissues handy. Breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth to reach the nasal areas.                   Breathe in through the mouth and out through the nose to reach the chest area.

  • Put few drops on a tissue inside a pillowcase to help you breathe and have a good night sleep.
  • Put 3 drops on a tissue and breathe into it through the day.
  • Mix 6 drops of eucalyptus oil with 6 drops of oil to water dispersant (solubiliser) and agitate the water to disperse the mixture and add

to a foot bath to deodorise feet. Use marbles in the bottom of the bowel to give a most enjoyable foot massage and relieve tired feet.

  • A warm bath is great for the tired or sore muscles (same recipe as the foot bath).
  • 6-8 drops could be added to a vaporiser in the bedroom to clear and deodorise if someone is feeling unwell.
  • Add five drops of eucalyptus oil to 10ml of carrier oil to help relieve muscular aches and pains, can also be used as a chest rub.
  • Make a spray by mixing 10 drops of eucalyptus and 10 drops of solubiliser and add the mixture to 100ml of water. Shake the bottle to

          mix the ingredients.

  • Use to disinfect, freshen and deodorise when cleaning kitchen, bathroom, telephone, floors and lots more.
  • 5ml added to washing will kill germs.

Hope Eucalyptus helps you enjoy winter days.
