CD Review: Octaves of Light by Eluv
Let me firstly say that I have listened to a lot of new age music CDs over the years. When I got this CD and popped it into my stereo I automatically noticed the clarity and depth of this recording which was a pleasant change from a lot of the computer generated music coming out these days. Soon I found myself going into a nice comfortable trance as Eluv’s voice intertwined seamlessly with the delicate instrumental arrangements. It had a certain ‘airiness’ about it which made me feel like I was starting to float away into a nice private place in my own mind. What really struck me therein was the seamless progression of each song into the next and how they all seemed to effortlessly flow into each other and with each new track came a deeper and more profound trance. The further you go into this album the more the music slows down and the more space is created. It is like a journey over different landscapes and soundscapes and the longer it went the more relaxed I became. Soon my mind started to wander and I realized that I was experiencing a level of meditation that was new to me. I noticed the resonating sounds of bells, the subtle breath of the flutes and the smooth chants of Eluv’s voice taking me down further and further. Everything seemed to fit in perfectly and the overall ambience created was truly magnificent. Before I knew it the CD had stopped and I was in a lovely state of deep relaxation that I wished could last forever. From that first experience with the CD I have used it many times since. Always it helps me to relax deeply and each time I listen to it I discover something new and exciting in the music like a subtle chord change I hadn’t noticed or an overlaying effect of different instruments I had not comprehended. Sometimes when I can’t sleep I put the CD on and it helps me switch off and fall asleep. Overall I rate Octaves of Light definitely in my own personal top 10 collection of relaxation CDs and recommend it to anyone who wants something soothing and created ‘from the heart’.
