Upcoming event - The Timeless Body - July/August in Qld
What rhymes with ‘rice’ and is helping people learn to move with ease?
The answer might be a mouthful, but the Feldenkrais Method (pronounced fel-den-krice) is on the move around Queensland right now. Teachers of the innovative method say that it has been a “well kept secret” for too long!
‘There is nothing like Feldenkrais to put a spring in your step - literally’, says Gold Coast Feldenkrais teacher Donna-Rose McAneney, ‘that’s why people look and feel younger after classes. They actually move with greater ease and lightness. Then they turn to us and say, “Why haven’t we heard of this before?” ’
So Feldenkrais teachers across Queensland and northern NSW are uniting to get the word out in July and August 2012 through workshops entitled The Timeless Body.
The Timeless Body workshops (which will be offered at half normal price) will introduce people to the process of “Awareness through Movement” or ATM. ATM is the format of Feldenkrais that is taught in groups. (There is also individual Feldenkrais work which uses gentle touch to guide and explore movement.)
The Feldenkrais method is named after its originator, Moshe Feldenkrais (1904-1984), an engineer and physicist who was also a judo black belt. Feldenkrais combined his knowledge of these disciplines into a fascinating approach to improving the efficiency of human movement. His students learnt to apply his teaching to their own particular needs, such as playing sport more easily, sitting or walking with ease or to managing movement problems (eg. back/shoulder/knee pain etc) arising from illness, injury and/or habitual patterns of use.
Jeni Drew, Gold Coast Feldenkrais teacher, says, “This work is known by too few”.
“You can read about Feldenkrais in books, watch it on YouTube or listen to CDs but it takes a live experience to know how good it actually feels. That’s why we’re doing a special offer with The Timeless Body workshops in Qld and northern NSW (details on www.feldenkraisoz.com.)”
