PREGNANCY AFTER TUBAL LIGATION SURGERY

PREGNANCY AFTER TUBAL LIGATION SURGERY

If a year has passed since surgery and conception hasn’t happened ...

Could one or both of your tubes be blocked?

One good tube or two will make a difference. To increase your chance of conceiving.-   deal with scar tissue after tubal ligation removal. When conception is slow to happen it is likely that you will have scar tissue in the Fallopian tubes, probably elsewhere too and you need to remove adhesions.

What can you do? What should you do after TL Reversal to head off any problems?

Take 6 Omega 3 capsules every day, 2 with each meal – take 1000 mg of quality Vitamin E. Enzyme therapy is available for difficult scarring but is seldom required.

Physical therapy after you have healed.

After you are healed from your operation, start to massage – you can do your own twice a day. Just gently massage the whole area. Use almond oil with some vitamin E.

Acupuncture about once a month is often helpful. If you consult me rather than needle acupuncture I will do magnetic cupping. This increases circulation to the tubes and helps with good healing and also breaks up scar tissue.

Castor oil packs are great (though bothersome and messy) – you can find out how on the Internet easilly so no need for me to explain here. – Please don’t massage or use packs during your period, and not if you think you are pregnant.

Get Fit – Get Healthy!

Time to exercise-. Swimming is very good or brisk walking – light weights – Do not go overboard – just a normal healthy routine. Learn some simple yoga – practice inverted positions like a shoulder stand – 15 minutes yoga 3 times a week will help greatly.

Start now - Get rid of junk food, pretend food in boxes – get rid of sugar – eat lots of green veg like broccoli, and raw nuts and seeds – almonds, walnuts, sunflower, ground linseed. Eat fish more often than red meat or chicken. If you think you can manage it begin to transition to a plant based Vegan diet. It is the least inflammatory diet there is, and it will often help the body deal with adhesions.

Take Ginkgo Biloba high strength every single day and learn to drink real green tea (not sugar junk in bottles) but made yourself.  Keep up your water intake.  Take a pregnancy multi. Research studies demonstrate taking a daily dose of 400 micrograms of folic acid will greatly reduce the risk of birth defects and miscarriage.

Smoking? Stop!

Cigarette smoking has conclusively been shown to be very harmful in pregnancy. The substances found in cigarette smoke cause poor healing and so may cause poor healing of the tubes after reversal surgery. Women who smoke during pregnancy have more miscarriages, premature births, placental problems and low birth weight babies. Giving up cigarette smoking is the best thing any woman can do for her health and her pregnancy. Alcohol also slows healing and it is bad for any pregnancy

After Tubes Reversed: Do you have any other health issues you need to address?

The most common medical problems during conception are diabetes and thyroid disease.

Women with poor blood sugar control are more likely to miscarry. If you have poorly working thyroid you are also likely to have problems conceiving. Good control of blood sugars and a healthy thyroid function are critical to healthy conception and pregnancy.

What medication, herbs etc. Are you taking?

If you are taking prescription meds consult with your doctor prior to attempting pregnancy.. Some prescriptions medications can be harmful to a pregnancy and can cause miscarriage or birth defects. There are also a number of herbs which are contra indicated in pregnancy. Talk to your prescribing practitioner. Tell her about your plans for a TL reversal and desire to have a healthy baby.

Monitor Ovulation

In my practice I have noticed scarring and adhesions often go hand in hand with irregular ovulation. Perhaps this also is because many women who have their tubes “untied” are older. Irregular ovulation is more common in older women. Likewise extra kilos reduce fertility and the body’s healing response. If menstruation is erratic you are probably only ovulating sporadically. This will make conceiving difficult.  You can purchase a kit from a pharmacy to determine ovulation. If you have a problem there- then please see a natural health practitioner to get ovulation back on track.

Most women who have their tied tubes reversed go on to halve a healthy child.
