Most people start getting brooms and dusters out when spring arrives. This can be the perfect time to air the house after a long winter and to prepare it for the rest of the year. Some people choose to hire spring cleaning services while others prefer to do the job themselves. If you are someone who wants to take spring cleaning to the next level, by making it eco-friendly, then we have some suggestions that can make the process much easier.

Choose the Right Products

One of the most important things to consider when getting ready to start a spring cleaning is to choose the right cleaning products. There are many options out there that are better for the environment than others. Many are organic and come in recyclable packages. A great way to get all of the products you need is to make a room by room cleaning checklist so that you know exactly what you have to buy for each surface. This will keep you from using products that are not eco-friendly just because you have them on hand.

No Paper Towels

Using paper towels, even if you end up recycling them, is not eco-friendly. It creates too much waste when there are much easier options and one that is much better for the environment: using cloth towels. When you use cloth you can just toss the towels in the washer and use them again without creating any of the waste that paper towels do. The same thing applies with wipes. It is better for the environment and it is better for your wallet, as well, since you do not have to spend tons of money buying rolls of paper towels.

Reuse Items in Your Home

How many of us have thrown out old toothbrushes in the past? Most of us have, and this is a mistake since old toothbrushes can easily be used to clean grout and even stains on carpets. In many sites that tell you how to build a green home, one of the most important things suggested is to learn to reuse items instead of throwing them away. You can start immediately, by turning old clothes into cleaning rags and using old toothbrushes instead of tossing them away.

Use Less Water

We all think that mopping the floors can be the best option when cleaning, but many times, sweeping can be just as effective. This is particularly true with tiled floors. If you can avoid it, use less water. By planning ahead, you can also collect rainwater a few days before your cleaning begins so that you can use that instead of turning on your tap. If you cannot avoid using water, then be sure that you do not waste it or leave the tap running when you are not using it. With a bit of care, you will be saving lots of money on your water bill, as well, so it is a win-win for everyone.

Hang Laundry to Dry

Another great way to be eco-friendly during your spring cleaning is to hang any towels or rags, and even clothing,to dry instead of using the dryer. This will save a lot of electricity and can actually leave your clothes better than a dryer. This can take some planning, of course, since you will need to hang the clothes somewhere, but even on a chair outside is a good idea. Do this as often as you can and you will be amazed at how much you will reduce your energy bill each month.

Recycle

If you are throwing things away, be sure to recycle. There are many items that people do not realize are recyclable but you can always look online for help and to see where to send these items. If something cannot be recycled, consider donating it. Try to find ways to prevent the items from ending up in landfills. This is one of the most important things you can do to keep your spring cleaning eco-friendly.

These are just some of the most useful spring cleaning organizing tips that can make a huge difference in how eco-friendly your home is. Be sure that your products are green and that their packaging can be recycled and turn to towels instead of paper. By following these tips you will make a big impact on the environment. Be sure to tell your friends about these tops so that your impact grows.
