Chakras are energy centres in the human energy field. Located along the central channel of the body from the base of the spine to the top of the head, they are conceived of as whirling, wheel-like vortices through which universal energy flows into and out of a person.

There are seven major chakras. Each chakra corresponds to specific glands, organs, and facets of your being.

Chakra blockages can have significant impact onyour entire energy system. A severe imbalance in one chakra almost always means imbalances in other chakras as well. (They work as a system.) Your throat chakra in particular has strong connections to your sacral chakra.

What are the 7 Chakra's and How Can an Imbalance or Blockage Affect My Sex Life?

1st Chakra. The foundation of all the Chakras is the Root or Base Chakra, Muladhara. Its colour is Red and it is located in the genital region, often said to be at the perineum, near the anal area. This chakra represents survival. If it is open, you feel grounded, stable and secure. You feel present in the here and now and connected to your physical body. If you are insecure about your job, money and ability to support yourself, this may caused by a blockage in the base chakra. If this chakra has too little energy, you may feel insecure or nervous. You may also have negative feelings associated with sex. If it has too much energy, you will have a tendency to be too sure of yourself, acting overconfident and materialistic. You're probably obsessed with being secure and resist change. Couples that fight over money are struggling in this energy.

2nd Chakra. The Sacral Chakra, Swadhisthana is located between the navel and the groin area. It's colour is orange. The Sacral chakra is about feeling and sexuality. When it is open, your feelings flow freely, and are expressed without you being over-emotional. You are open to intimacy and you can be passionate and lively. You have no problems dealing with your sexuality. The main function of this chakra is emotional flow, intimacy and connectedness. If the sacral chakra is blocked, we can become numb to our emotions and we contract into our body. This contracted state has the potential to deaden passion and desire, both sexually and in other areas of life. If this chakra is low on energy, you may feel cold or distant toward other people and have trouble forming emotional bonds. If you tend to be stiff and unemotional  the Sacral chakra is under-active. You're not very open to people. If this chakra is over-active, you tend to be emotional all the time. You'll feel emotionally attached to people and you can be very sexual. When equilibrium occurs through the balancing of the sacral chakra, we become more conscious of our inner nature and develop a deep appreciation for our emotional well-being. Intimate relationships become easier when blockages are released and life feels “sweeter”.

3rd Chakra. The solar plexus – Manipura, is the chakra located in the abdomen, below the rib cage. This chakra is designated by the colour yellow. It is associated with feelings of control and anger.Self-esteem and the ego are also associated with this chakra. If this chakra is low on energy, you feel submissive, nervous, and self-conscious, passive and indecisive. You're probably timid and don't get what you want. If this chakra has too much energy, you will be bossy and controlling. This chakra is also associated with individuality and with the mask you wear for the world. You can think, dream and fantasize about your lover, but this chakra is where you act on these feelings.

4th Chakra. – The Heart - Anahata – this is the emotional centre where sex really begins, it is located in the chest, near the heart, so it is not surprising that it symbolizes love and happiness, joy and laughter.
Its colour is green, symbolizing growth. Jealousy can also be associated with an unbalanced anahata. (Perhaps this is where the term “green-eyed monster” comes from.) This chakra is associated with our ability to give and receive love, to feel compassion, to reach out to others. When too weak, you may feel closed to others, have low self-esteem, insecurity, jealousy, feeling unloved, "poor me" syndrome, and self-doubting. Overactive, you may experience the "martyr" syndrome, giving too much of oneself, overconfident, jealousy and stinginess. When the orgasmic energy flows here, sex transforms into “making love” instead of being only a physical or sensory experience. Your deepest feelings for yourself and your partner reside here. Emotions are honoured as messengers and felt.  Hearts open and vulnerability is shared in an atmosphere of trust.

5th Chakra The throat, Vishuddha is the chakra located at the base of the throat and symbolizes verbalization, or saying what needs to be said. It is related to communication and self-expression. It's colour is blue. This chakra is considered important for good communication and expressing one's thoughts and feelings. If this chakra is under active, you may be timid or avoid speaking up for yourself. As a result, you may end up simply going along with your partner's wishes. Not speaking the truth may block this chakra.  If it is overactive, you will be the kind of person who never shuts up. When this chakra is balanced you are able to communicate easily and express your needs and desires. This is where you speak your truth about who you are and what you want. When this chakra is open, you fully express yourself through the sounds of lovemaking. You communicate with your partner to co-create the sexual experience you desire, taking responsibility for your own pleasure.

6th Chakra , Ajna, known as “the third eye,” is the chakra that represents self-discovery, intuition, and enlightenment. Its colour is indigo. this chakra is often symbolically associated with a spiritual “awakening.” If it is under-active you may be ridid in your thinking' If it is overbalanced you may tend to live in a world of fantasy. When this Chakra is open and balanced you have the ability to look your lover in the eye and know what he/she is thinking, you instinctively know what he/ she wants .Making love here activates your inner vision and brings you a sense of higher awareness beyond the physical experience of you/me, mine/yours. You are able to communicate without words. You simply know how to pleasure and love each other. Sex at this level is mysterious and exciting.

7th Chakra . Sahasrara is known as “the crown chakra.”  As you can probably guess from that name, it is located at the top of the head. This represents a person or being who is immortal or godlike. It can also represent your connection with God, the universe, or a higher power. It is believed that when your energy force builds up and reaches your crown chakra, you will feel an unparalleled connection with the universe and the world around you. This is represented by white, symbolizing a Godlike higher power and light. The crown chakra is about wisdom and being one with the world. When this chakra is open, you ar eunprejudiced and aware of the world and yourself. It is believed that if this chakra is closed, you will be unable to transcend your sacred sex into a spiritual experience. However, if it is open, you will be able to turn sexual union into a mystical experience.
