Spring into summer.

Ready for a refreshing spring makeover. Here are some really great skincare tips for Spring. Let’s get you glowing for the spring season and ready to glow for summer. Also, summer is a season where you should pay extra special attention to your skin; otherwise you’ll probably regret it later. So before plunging yourself into the pool or heading to the beach these holidays, we have listed some tips on how you take care of your skin this hot and sunny summertime.

Shed Your Winter Skin:

Exfoliate the whole body - winter months can take a toll on our skin because the skin cells do not rejuvenate as fast, thus leaving behind dry, rough, and scaly skin. Dry body brushing every day in the morning just before you shower will gently remove the skin of dead skin cells and stimulate the blood flow to the skin, and bring about a natural glow to the skin. After you have had a shower massage your damp skin with natural oils that will keep your skin nourished.

Exfoliate and deep cleanse your face. Use mild exfoliators that contain gentle ingredients to remove dry skin cells that clog your pores. There are a lot of different natural exfoliants available to leave your skin looking smoother and healthier. You should be careful not to use a strong, scrubbing exfoliants that contain, for example, walnut or almond shells, on your face because it can actually damage your skin. Organic clay masks to detoxify the skin and remove toxins is also excellent then follow with skin-nourishing treatment serums which are rich in essential fatty acids, vitamins, nutrients and antioxidants.

Moisturize and Protect. It is also time to evaluate our skin care products. For instance the moisturizer we have used all winter long may be too heavy for the spring and summer months. Furthermore, your winter moisturizer may not contain enough SPF protection for the spring and summer months.

As the weather gets warmer everyone's complexion tends to get a little oilier. Even if you have a dry or combination skin, you may need a lighter moisturizer.

What about your colour cosmetics? If you are using a natural sun protecting mineral makeup? Consider a light dusting powder, bronzer and light lip gloss. For springtime, it is best to keep it simple and fresh. Why not add some colour into your makeup bag and introduce new shades of eye shadow, lip tints and blush.

Evaluate your skin - Just as you visit the GP for yearly physicals; it is imperative that you check your skin. Evaluate all moles, freckles, dark spots and variations in skin tone. Most skin cancer is treatable if detected early.

Spring brings a bountiful harvest of fruits and vegetables and offers so much to promote great looking skin. Fruits and vegetables provide antioxidants which fight off free radicals and protect the skin. Raw is better than cooked to receive the most benefit of nutrients from fruit and vegetables. Eat lots of fish and take essential fatty acids on the form of flaxseed, linseed, or evening primrose oil. Deficiency has been linked to many skin conditions including acne, rosacea and other inflammatory conditions.

Be diligent about sun protection - As the weather gets warmer, make sure you're applying pure 30+ SPF sunscreen to all exposed areas 20 to 30 minutes before heading outdoors, and reapplying every two hours. We do know the need for some sun for the production of vitamin D however tanning beds and sunbathing are the worst choices for those who want to minimize skin damage that causes premature aging, wrinkles and skin cancer.

Don't forget feet and hands - Well manicured toes add so much to that pretty sandal!

Drink plenty of water. Water is the best, but any fluids that don’t contain a lot of caffeine, sugar, alcohol, or salt will work. Outdoor play or exercise, especially in the summer, increases your risk of dehydration. This is one risk you don't want to take since it not only affects your performance and robs your skin of vitality, but also may be potentially hazardous to your health. Start the day by drinking a full glass of water with lemon juice or a spoonful of apple cider vinegar, both of which are cleansing. Dandelion tea will aid in cleansing the liver and green tea is a powerful antioxidant.
