Does your skin like dairy?

You may love your cheese and ice-cream but does your body and skin?

Most people have been raised to believe that we need copious amounts of dairy products; milk, cheese and yoghurt to get our daily dose of calcium. However we need to question many things about our beloved milk products. First of all, where does our good old milker (cow) get her calcium to keep her big bones strong? Well it’s not from cows' milk; it’s from the plants she eats. Next we have to ask, why do we continue to consume another animals' milk well into adulthood when cows are weaned at approx. 7 months. We are the only species on the planet that consumes another animals' milk. Even cats and dogs naturally wean off their mother's milk yet we force cows' milk down thier throat too.

Cows' milk is designed to turn a 30kg calf into a 180kg adolescent cow. Cows' milk forms the first foreign proteins entering and infant’s body through baby formula. It is said that exposure to dairy products results in cellular and immune responses that may be the cause behind the increase of immune disorders in countries with high dairy consumption.

Milk contains a simple sugar called lactose, the body produces an enzyme called lactase to digest lactose. However, the production of lactase significantly reduces after infanthood and thus milk is absorbed into the blood stream without proper digestion. Protein is made of amino acids, this includes milk proteins. Amino acids must be broken down first by the digestive system to avoid excessive immune responses. Because of milk's high protein content which is then consumed along with other proteins in one's diet, may actually strip the body of the calcium. Countries that consume high protein diets (milk, dairy and meat) actually have the highest rates of osteoporosis. By repeatedly being exposed to undigested amino acids the body can result in an overactive immune system, which then begins to attack the body's own cells instead of expelling harmful bacteria. This creates inflammation in the body.

Skin inflammation is commonly linked to dairy products. Researchers have suggested that the presence of hormones in milk may be the reason that milk consumption has been linked to acne. Cows' milk regular and organic has 59 hormones, multiple allergens, fat and cholesterol. It has been well documented that dairy products cause diarrhoea, cramps, bloating, gas, gastrointestinal bleeding, iron-deficiency anaemia, skin rashes, atherosclerosis and acne. It is a primary cause of recurrent ear infections in children as dairy products create damp in the body like mucus. Dairy has also been linked to insulin dependent diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, infertility and leukaemia.

Most people do not realise that they have intolerance to dairy products and when the body cannot digest the waste element, it is released through the skin causing acne. The reason we don't notice a lot of what dairy does to us is because we are just so used to feeling a certain way. Most of us are so caught up in the raciness of our minds; we are totally disconnected from our body and literally can't feel what our bodies are screaming at us every time we use these products.

Both dairy and meat have zero fibre; this causes the digestive system to work more slowly. When digestion is slow, bad bacteria and toxins can be absorbed into the body and then tries to come through the skin.

Most cows’ milk has measurable traces of herbicides, pesticides, up to 52 powerful antibiotics, blood, pus, faeces, bacteria and viruses. All of these components are concentrated when it is made into cheese. When it is made into butter the allergens are lost but the pesticides and antibiotics remain. In homogenised milk, protein hormones survive as well as eleven steroid hormones.

Ultimately dairy causes a lot of mucus and inflammation in the body which is a result of an overactive immune response. This causes acne in many cases as the body tries to rid itself of these undigested proteins.

Makes you think as to whether that cube of cheese is really worth it! But just to make things a little more interesting, if you think giving away dairy is going to be easy think again.

Researchers have found that cheese is actually addictive! Wellcome Research Laboratories found a substance in dairy products that looked very much like morphine. After many complex tests they concluded that it actually was morphine. The enzymes that produce opiates are not only in poppies- they are also found in the livers of cows. Traces of morphine can pass into the animal’s bloodstream and end up in milk and milk products. Opiates hide inside casein (the main dairy protein). When casein molecules are digested, they break apart and release opiate molecules called casomorphins. This could be why dairy is used so frequently to comfort our emotional woes as it tends to numb us like a drug.

So if that doesn’t make it unpleasant enough to give away dairy, then you have the dairy detox side effects to contend with. That’s right it is said that after going off dairy for one week the body rids itself of nearly 4.5 litres of mucus...not a pretty sight. You can also expect irritability ( we tend to use dairy to comfort and suppress our anger which is really just covering up our sadness), skin breakouts and emotional instability... just like coming off drugs! All of this subsides though and it takes about 3 months for the body to rid itself of dairy.
