Falling Down and Getting Up
To be human is to lose our way and find it again. The
human lineage is the lineage of falling down and
getting up.
Time and again we forget who we are and where we are. We forget
God and other people and realization and our true Self. We forget that
we are essentially good and connected and at one with the world. This
might be considered a disaster, but if we change our perspective, it
needn’t be.
To be human is to fall down and get up over and over
again.
Please put this definition in your soul’s dictionary.
And Reader,
please join this tribe of the truly human. If you do, you will never be disappointed in yourself again. You will certainly continue to grow and
improve, but you will be much less likely to reject your essential and
imperfect self—thus tossing yourself out of the human lineage.
To fall is human. To get up again is divine!
A Practice to Activate Love
It is the nature of the ego to always seek to stop the
flow of life and to reflect upon it instead. This brings
the ego safety, but also kills what it loves. To put it
more precisely, it kills what love is.
Love is not sentiment, nor is it a feeling.
Love brings about these things, but indirectly. We see the fluttering of
leaves as the invisible wind which belongs to no-one—passes through
the trees. Love is the wind that makes things happen.
The ego approaches love backwards, thinking that sentiment and
personal feeling, when brought to fruition—that is, made bigger—will
lead to love. It also confuses eros, the energy of sexual attraction, with
love.
It might be easier to understand what love is if we redefine love as an
action. What actions of love have you taken today? Actions affect other
people and things. Their existence is changed in some way by your use
of applied love. Sentiment, on the other hand, only changes you.
So
today, take any positive feelings you have about a thing (a wall that
needs painting or a dish that needs washing) or a person (with whom
you wish to share a “hello,” a get-well card, or a simple smile) and
activate it.
Doing this is so powerful that it can even halt the ego’s
attempt to stop the world.
